Meet Paul Laywell
A mad scientist on a mission to equip private schools with the needed resources and expertise to integrate the sciences as a meaningful cornerstone to a classical Christian education.
Paul Laywell has been teaching everything from seventh-grade earth science to Advanced Placement chemistry for more than four decades. He’s been the creator of three different science departments, served as a leader and mentor to faculty in both public and private school settings, and cultivated a teaching philosophy that invites students into questions that blur the lines among science, philosophy, history and theology. He holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Texas A&M University and has been honored with a number of peer-, leadership- and student-selected teaching awards.
Paul is extending his impact to schools nationwide, serving as a consultant who can design departments, curate a competitive curriculum, mentor faculty and more.
A self-admitted adrenaline junkie, Paul is fueled by Diet Coke and the pursuit of mastery over his newest baked-goods recipe. When he’s not hitting the local bike trails, he’s usually reading or working on a home-improvement project.
eu·re·ka: a cry of joy or satisfaction when one discovers something; from the ancient Greek word heúrēka, meaning “I have found it.”
“Paul has an innate ability to weave the glory of God into the very fabric of science.”
Rev. Thomas Browning, BS, ThM
“As a pioneer in the classical Christian world, Paul has spent 30 years pulling the best science curriculum together with a rich biblical framework.”
Justice Kerr, Head of School, Petra Academy
“Mr. Laywell uses the connections between the fields of science, history, theology and philosophy to form an integrated, well-rounded approach to teaching.”
Emily Saladino, former student
